The R&D strength of Taiwan’s biotechnology industry is obvious to all the world; furthermore, the National Biotechnology Research Park has been set up to recruit companies with the potential to develop new drugs. Dr. Chen, Shui-Tein, 72, is the founder of one such start-up. After he retired from the Academia Sinica five years ago, he used his pension as the start-up funding and invested in new drug development to nurture industry talents.
